Ahhh, my favourite post for the week - Looks I Loved This Weekend. This week I am taking a formal approach to it. The looks I loved were all red carpet related. And all look slightly vintage-inspired. So I am assuming this means that on some deep psychological, sub-conscious level I am yearning for yesteryear and feel the need to dress up a bit. That's what I am going with, anyway.
Let's start with young Michelle Lea, star of the brilliant televisual series, Glee. Michelle, in general, annoys me just about as much as her character, Rachel. She tries too hard, is precocious (not in a good way) and always seems to be overcompensating style-wise. And then I saw this. For pretty much the first time I LOVE what she is wearing. And how she is styled. It is a simple, non-fussy, timeless and super-chic Jason Wu runway look with Brian Atwood shoes. And the hair and the red lips are a perfect accompaniment. Wow.
Ms Dita von Teese looks as impeccable as ever. And she is wearing a cocktail number by my favourite red carpet designer at the moment, Elie Saab. This is his 'other' design style. When he is not beading he does sharp little red dresses that look a little Mouret, a little Beckham but always quite 40s-inspired. I think it is beautiful and perfect for the film premier of God Save My Shoes. Hers were of course Louboutin.
The lovely Cat Deeley attended the Creative Arts Emmy Awards this weekend in a gown by her mate, Matthew Williamson. The violet, the cut-away back, the beading detail, the effortless fabrication - all make this an amazing dress and my newly introduced fantasy book-club mate has hit a style home run with this. I may be biased. But I do think so. Do you?
